--- Vestene --- Runes: Truth Stasis Death Type: Player Character Homeland: Sartar Occupation: Heavy Infantry Initiate of Cult: Humakt Standard of Living: Destitute Income: 30 L Ransom: 300 L Description: Vestene looks like a medium-sized athletic woman in her mid-forties, except with more scars. Tons of scars, actually. It's not unusual for a veteran of many wars to carry some traces of past battles, but Vesten tanned skin really looks like a patchwork, for Humakt healing magic tends to leave hideous scars where gentle Ernalda spells would leave unblemished skin. And Vestene has been wounded many, many times. She knows her appearance unsettles her enemies and takes advantage of it, wearing little armor to expose more patchwork skin. Well, truth be told, she wears little armor because it was recently taken by the Seven Mothers rune lord who dueled and left her for dead—but she prefers not to dwell on that particular setback, and maybe so should you. Vestene also has a crooked nose, pointy chin, small very dark eyes that become mere black slits when she's angry, and a shaggy unkempt mane of dark hair. She currently wears a rather composite linothorax (clearly assembled from several parts), bronze corroded greaves, a conic helmet, and quality sandals (a good soldier knows the value of good footwear). Her weaponry comprises a large oval shield clumsingly but lovingly painted with a huge death rune, three javelins, a dagger, and of course a perfectly balanced bronze sword whose edge shines with a magical glow. Vestene has not survived so long while joining each and every possible war she could join by being hasty or reckless. Oh wait. Actually, she is. It's just that, for some reason, she refuses to die. Which, for an initiate of Humakt, the god of war and death, might seem quite unbecoming. Nevertheless, Vestene is not stupid. She has survived ordeals that would have broken lesser women and she has acquired the simple but deep wisdom of the people who have been though hell and back (metaphorically I must add, such a thing being technically possible in Glorantha). Vestene displays a superhuman resilience, the sense of honor that befits humakti, and a dark, wry sense of humor, though no living soul remembers hearing her laugh even once and people who've seen her smile do not cherish the memory. Though she can sometimes appear like the voice of reason, wise and collected, she is, first and foremost, a professional killer. An honorable killer, who never acts out of cruelty or malice, but a killer nonetheless.
